The procedure itself is not painful. We use a local anaesthetic to completely numb the area before the removal begins. You may feel a slight sting from the initial injection, but you will not feel any pain during the excision.
Any procedure that involves an incision in the skin will leave a small scar. However, our doctors are highly skilled in using techniques that minimise scarring. The final appearance of the scar will depend on the size of the cyst and your individual healing process.
The primary goal of a complete excision is to remove the entire cyst sac, which makes recurrence very unlikely. If any part of the sac wall is left behind, there is a small chance the cyst could reform over time. Our doctors take great care to ensure the full sac is removed.
Recovery is typically quick. You can usually return to normal daily activities immediately, although we advise avoiding strenuous exercise or swimming for a short period. We will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing.
No, we strongly advise against this. Squeezing a cyst can rupture the sac beneath the skin, spreading its contents and leading to severe inflammation, infection, and increased scarring. It does not remove the sac, so the cyst will likely return.
